New Brunswick Provost

Welcome Message

The Provost for Rutgers University–New Brunswick (Rutgers–NB) is a newly established position responsible for strategic faculty development and excellence. The Provost reports to the Chancellor who is the chief academic and budgetary officer for RutgersNB.  The Provost position offers a focused opportunity to work with faculty members, deans and department chairs on faculty development across the University.  It is clear that a strong and vibrant faculty is central to the mission of a great university.  In addition, the recruitment and hiring of new faculty is an enormous investment of effort and resources in the right individual who ideally will be here for 20–30 years.  Doing it well, therefore, has significant and long-term impact for the institution.

The university of the 21st century has evolved from 1766, when Rutgers was first chartered as Queen’s College, one of the nine colonial colleges established before the American Revolution.  It is the only land-grant institution among the original colonial colleges and RutgersNB now enrolls more than 40,000 students with more than 2,000 faculty and instructional staff.  Our faculty come from all corners of the world and excel in disciplines from A(erospace Engineering ) to W(omen and Gender Studies).  We are proud to be Rutgers’ flagship campus and pleased to be educating students from New Jersey and the world.  I have always considered working with undergraduates a joy, and working with faculty a privilege.  It is a privilege to be working with the first-rate faculty here in New Brunswick.
